Below are the rankings for the Southern Woods Pack.
HIGH/EARNED RANKS
- High ranks are ranks you earn! They are the leading ranks and have their own den and are highly respected.
Alpha Female (SWxAF)
The alpha female is the leader of the pack. Her word is law, she makes the decisions, promotes, demotes, and even exiles wolves. She watches over her pack, arranges patrols, and leads it. She has the power to declare war, make announcements, and do whatever she wants. She is this superior alpha (If there is a secondary one) and is inevitably the pack leader. The current alpha female is Hero.
Alpha's Mate (SWxAM)
The alpha's mate is what its title is- the mate of the leader of the pack. The alpha's mate does not have equal powers to the regular alpha and needs permission to do things (such as declare war, or make announcements), however, it is higher than a beta. Once the alpha chooses a mate, the two will undergo a public, wedding-like ceremony to display the new alpha. The alpha's mate is primarily responsible for pup rearing. While the main alpha focuses on his or her alpha duties, their mate must raise the pups and care for the pack. This is a gender-neutral role, and any wolf can become the alpha's mate.
Beta (SWxB)
The betas are the second-in-command in the pack. They take orders directly from the alphas and carry out their duties. They are very respected and only have to listen to the alphas, however, they do not have every right that an alpha does. There are always two pack betas, usually one of each gender, though not always. The betas are responsible for watching over patrols and training the deltas. If the alphas are sick or die without any heirs, the betas (Or one beta) will take over as the alpha.
Delta (SWxD)
The delta is third-in-command and takes orders from the betas and alphas and are training to eventually become the betas. Deltas are younger wolves and spend their days training and watching over the regular members. They deserve lots of respect, though they must take orders from both the betas and the alphas. Deltas usually accompany lower-ranked wolves on their patrol. There are two deltas- usually one of each gender, though not always. When a beta takes over as an alpha, retires, or dies, the delta(s) will take over as the beta(s).
Knight (SWxK)
A knight is usually a paw-picked lower ranked wolf who shows great initiative and promise. Knights are chosen to always guard and protect the higher ranks and are allowed to live with them. They are called 'sir' or 'lady' and tend to be family of the high-ranked wolves. Knights spend their days guarding only the high-ranked wolves, but will participate in battles, guarding the camp, and sparring to keep their skills fresh.
Lead Subordinate (SWxLES)
There are two lead subordinates- one being a hunter, and one being a guard. These subordinates will live with the high-ranked wolves and will organize and watch over the subordinates. They will also lead patrols. The subordinates are encouraged to train and prove themselves to the higher ranks in hope to get this rank. Lead subordinates may eventually become deltas or betas if they prove themselves worthy.
MEDIUM RANKINGS
- Medium rankings are still earned ranks that you receive by being selected for them, though they aren't technically 'high' ranks. Medium ranked wolves still sleep with their lower packmates, but also get more respect and have more responsibilities.
Gamma (SWxG)
The gamma is the biggest subordinate of them all! Though this isn't recognized as a 'high rank' it technically is higher than a subordinate. A subordinate who proves themselves to be more cunning and stronger than the others may be given this rank. Though they still live and eat with subordinates, they have a nicer nest. There can only be one gamma.
Medic (SWxMED)
The medic is a wolf dedicated to healing their packmates. These wolves spend their days gathering medical supplies and healing wolves from injuries or sicknesses. They are very respected and have to be chosen by other medics or the alpha(s) to train to become a medic.
Coach (SWxCO)
A coach is an experienced wolf with knowledge of the pack and the territory. The coach is responsible for welcoming in new members and showing them around and what to do. Coaches also will train the adolescents and assist wolves who are training adolescents.
LOWER RANKINGS
- These ranks are the lowest in the pack that any wolf can have. They have their own dens.
Subordinate Hunter (SWxSH)
Subordinate hunters are responsible for hunting and providing food for the pack! They go on patrols, hunt, and also may scout the territory. Subordinate hunters don't generally have to fight often, but they may have to in a battle. Usually hunters don't participate in sparring.
Subordinate Guardian (SWxSG)
Subordinate guardians are responsible for guarding, fighting, and protecting the pack. Guards go on patrols with hunters to protect them, go on border patrols, or just guard the camp. They're the protectors inevitably. The guardians are led by the lead subordinates and knights, and will spar with each other to keep their fighting skills fresh and to prove themselves to higher-ranked wolves.
Scout (SWxSCO)
Scouts are responsible for watching and patrolling the territory. Scouts may be like spies, or they may be sent out to find elk herds! Scouts move around and are responsible for finding and searching things. Many times scouts must find any suspicious things or elk/moose herds, but they may possibly become spies.
Pupsitter (SWxPSI)
Pupsitters are females that are expecting or caring for pups. Pupsitters do not have any duties or responsibilities other than to care for their young. All mothers are required to care for their pups until they are able to live on their own, however, a female may choose to remain a pupsitter for the rest of her time if she wishes to have more pups.
Elder (SWxE)
Elders are old, wise members of the pack that have retired from their duties. They rest and spend the days away sharing their wisdom and advising the high-ranked wolves, while giving younger wolves guidance. The elders and adolescents both share a den in order to teach the adolescents respect, and to allow the elders to have their needs served.
Adolescent (SWxADO)
Adolescents are the teenagers of the pack and are responsible for training. Adolescents will be assigned trainers and will get brand-new dens. They will have lessons and grow into adults during this time and will either become scouts, subordinate hunters, or subordinate guardians.
Pup (SWxP)
Pups are the young members of the pack. They are expected to have fun, be safe, and ALWAYS stay in camp! They are cared for by their mothers and have no set duties. Pups will grow up into adolescents at about a year of age.
Omega (SWxO)
The omega is the lowest ranking of the pack and is usually a demotion rank. Wolves may be demoted to this rank for many reasons- though the omega is the punching bag of the pack and eats last. They can try to prove themselves to the higher ranks in order to get another rank.
